    Find Minimum, excluding ties

I've searched the forums & am getting better with nesting formulas, but have come yet another brick wall, upon which I am banging my excel dunce capped head.

I have a list of numbers, B1:B50. I want to identify is there is 1 & only 1 lowest number. Kind of like a skins game. I want it be blank if there is not 1 distinct lowest number. So, for example, if there are 20 4's & 30 5's, I want it to return blank. Same if there are 48 4's & 2 3's. But if there is only 1 3, then I want it to return that number & the corresponding name from A1:A50.

    Thanks once again.

Probably easier if you post a sample workbook showing some expected results.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

    Minimum only

    Attached sheet.

what I'd like to have is for it to look at each column seperately, & if there is 1 unique lowest number, pull out that number. From there I think I can index & match the names & maybe the test #. I think.....maybe.....ok, maybe not.

    Thanks NBVC,

    See attached.

The easiest way is to show the results laterally... but you can do that as a helper table...then post the results as you want them.

The helper table can go anywhere and can be hidden if you want.

Formula in B56 of Helper table:

formula in B55 of Helper table:

Formula in B54 of Helper table:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
each copied across as many columns as your original table.

Then formula in B44 of Results table:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
    confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

Formula in C44 of Results table:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
    confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

Formula in D44 of Results table:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
    confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

Then copied down as many rows as there are columns in your original data.

I attached a possible solution...It's not especially complicated, but it's easier to view than describe.

    Does that help?
