sorting by time zone based on zip codes

i'm compiling a list of several hundred businesses across the country that i want to be able to sort by time zone.

say for example I have zip codes listed in Column A. Is there a formula I can have in Column B that will return which time zone a particular zip code belongs to?

here are some links that might help

    zip prefixes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZIP_code_prefixes
    zip code map http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZIP_Code
    time zone map http://www.timetemperature.com/tzus/time_zone.shtml

    thanks in advance,
    noob

Re: sorting by time zone based on zip codes

You need a master list someplace that has the time zone for each zip code. And then probably, for each time zone, the GMT offset (which varies, for some, by season). Then you can use a VLOOKUP formula to retrieve the time zone for a given zip, and another to retrieve the current offset.

If you need help, you gather the source material, and then post an example of what you're trying to do.
