    How can you override cell shading using Conditional formatting?

    Basically Cells are alternately shaded using conditional formatting.

    =MOD(ROW(),2)

    This method only allows the user to shade cells that have not been formatted through the MOD function in Conditional Formatting.

    Can the formula be written so that if a user wants to shade a cell that it will override the conditional formatting?

    Thanks!

    No, CF will override, it is in essence super-volatile (in other words applied at all times).

    (I should add caveat of NAFAIK!)

    Is there something that can be done in VB that will say if such cell has user defined shading then don't shade, if not then alterate shading throughout the list?

    No as I say if you have CF applied to the cell it will override regardless

    EDIT: in theory you can tell if manual formatting has been applied (the CF does not affect the interior index) but you'd still have to deactivate the CF on the cell in order for the manual formatting to be visible ... is that what you want ?

    No I don't guess so. Just though instead of conditional formatting maybe I could do something in VB.. No worries. It's not too significant

    Thanks for all the help though!
