A Google like search of a arbitrary text string in a complete woorkbook

    Hi

I would like to search a whole woorkbook for an arbitrary text string and store the number of hits in a cell.

E.g. I would like to search 'IEC 61400' in different sheets within a woorkbook and know how many places this is written i all the active cells.

    How can I do this?

    Any help for this?

    Thanks
    HenrikKS, Denmark :-)

I have tried to use VLOOKUP(...) to search an arbitrary chosen text string in somewhat many data.

Apperently this could 'take some time' (processor time?)

    example:

    =+IF(VLOOKUP("*" & $S6 & "*";$P$4:$P$995;1;FALSE)="#N/A";0;1)

Here "*" and "*" results in a finding the $S6 as a part in a cell in $P$4:$P$995

I use say more that 1000 of these VLOOKUPs and would like to use a kind og a Google free text search in the complete WorkBook. I need to kwow how many times $S6 appears in the WorkBook.

    Dude, you're so overthinking this.

Count Text Strings with a Substring

    Like so:

    =COUNTIF($P$4:$P$995, "*" & S6 & "*")
