Search for a string in a sentence/ phrase

Hi folks

Can one extend the caabilities of the VLOOKUP file so that it looks for a string , say " INDEX" in a column with phrases that contain it, and then returns the rows coresponding to it.

Currently I do this manually by looking for the string and then colouring all the column enteries that conatin it. Following this, I sort by color by applying data filters on the column containing the phrase. As you can see the process is quite cumbersome, and I'm sure there is a better way to do it.

If you can share this better way with me, I will be very thankful !

Are you actually using Excel 2008 on a Mac? (your profile says 2003)

No, I'm using Excel 2010,but I couldn't locate a seperate section for it. Hence I posted in the section for the latest iteration recognized by the forum.
