Fuzzy search of a list of entries against a text cell

I am not even sure this is the right forum for the question, but here goes.

I have a list of entries (manually entered names that have all sorts of past spelling errors) to compare to. The list is on one worksheet of a work book. On another worksheet, I have shipping records that have a name field that might contain the names in the reference list. The problem is that the entries will not match exactly. For instance, the reference list contains "Stans, Stan's, and Stanz". The shipping records have the name field with entries like "Stan's Garage, The Stanz Garage, and Stan's". Is there a function or set of functions I can point at the name field that will look at the reference in a fuzzy way to find the reference in the name field, even if other words are in the name field? I need to use this weekly to ID certain names for the purposes of tallies and cost analysis, but I am willing to use a method that is a little too grabby over one that is too discriminating. Any Ideas?
