    Dropdown Menu with formula

    Hi,

I have just inherited a worksheet for asset management, and the guy who designed the sheet has left the company.

the asset management sheet works really well, but there is a dropdown menu that can be used to select the depreciation type and there are 3 values that are selectable each of which gives a different depreciation value.

What i need to know is how to change the formulas used by the options in the dropdown menu as the formulae used for the depreciation types needs updated.

    thanks

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

EDIT has your problem anything to do with this :http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal13.html ?

    Hi,

thanks for that, ill try and post a sheet but i am finding it hard to get a working dummy sheet as if i swap the contents of the cells the calculation seems to lose logic.

and yes it does have something to do with the link you posted.

I have a dropdown with "Straight line depreciation" "Double Depreciation" and a third option.

what i need to know is how to get to the formulea that drive these options.

( I have just realised that I have probably posted this in the wrong section also!!)

    Thanks for your help

You can use the CHOOSE Function based on the CombBox's Linked Cell. here's a quick example

Not sure what you mean by clicking the format control. That's to set the control up, the formula does the work

my original question was how to edit the formulae used by each menu item...you do this through format control right?
