Help stuck on project to populate multiple fields

    Hi all,

I am working on designing a template for clients that populate multiple fields once a date and project type are inputted on a summary sheet. Once the date and project type have been entered, I am wanting task types on a different sheet to come up based on the number of days left until a project is due....

I was initially advised to use the match and index functions, although I'm having trouble thinking of ways to use them or any other functions.

This is what I am trying to do...
    input SUMMARY
Due Date 9/16/2012 Current Date 7/16/2012 Project Type A

Once those fields have been entered they are sorted through a master copy of different task types based on the number of days until the project is due

    i.e. MASTER - 30 day tasks

    Type Task
    A Test Sample Task
    B Different Task here

I have been stuck on this project for a few days and I was hoping someone on this forum may have helpful hints on formulas to use or point me in the right direction....

    I appreciate it!

I think few understand what you want to do.
    //Ola

Where does "Due Date 9/16/2012 Current Date 7/16/2012" fit in?
So you have input 90, 90, 45, 45. Is there a connection between those and the 90/45/7 Master,
"I am wanting task types on a different sheet to come up based on the number of days left until a project is due"
You mean task types on different Excel sheets?
Where is 'days left until a project is due'? Is it the 90days, 45 days

Re: Help stuck on project to populate multiple fields

I am working on a project involving two main inputs - a date and project type. I am ultimately hoping to create a template that would allow a user to type in a project due date and select the project type. Based on these selections, the spreadsheet would create a list of tasks based on the project type and separated by due date. For example, one of my project types would need to fill out a service request 45 days before the Due Date, but this task would not appear on the list if they selected a different project type.

I will be able to group the tasks based on standard periods (90-day tasks, 60, 45, 30, etc.). These will be held in separate sheet within one workbook and will serve as a "master file" for the formula/function to auto-populate from.

I have thought of either using IF statements and INDEX and MATCH functions or using a pivot table or filter option (I have not had much experience with VBA or Macros programming). Ideally, I would prefer something automated so the only thing a user has to do is type in their due date and project type and they will see a full task list specific to their project and allotted time.

Attached you should find the most recent excel document I have been brainstorming with.

Thanks so much for your time. I appreciate it.
