Hi - I have to get an average of a string of numbers that include both positive and negative numbers. Is the formula =Average (...) sufficient or do I need to account for negative numbers? Thanks!
String:
-61.19 0 -60.48 -131.41 4.12 -2.93 24.76 18.44 13.36 3.71
Using the =Average formula I get:
-19.162
Well that is the average of the positive / negative numbers you mention.
If that's what you've been asked for that's all good then.

just want to show you the use function averageif for (separate positive and negative numbers -average)
=AVERAGEIF(A1:A10,"<0") this is for negative numbers.
=AVERAGEIF(A1:A10,">0") this is for positive numbers

and as Richard said your formula is correct for getting the average of the combination of positive&negative numbers.
