Hi, I am a director of a Not For Profit called Richieball. It is an annual tournament/event that brings friends and family together and raises money for charity. The centerpiece of the day long event is a 72 team competition that involves playing Richieball (check out www.richieball.com if you are curious). Anyway, the sport consists of a 72 teams broken down evenly into 2 conferences with 4 divisions within each conference. We play a 5 game round robin regular season. Each team plays 2 division games, 2 conference games, and 1 non-conference game. We tally the wins of each team and assign points based on this schedule:
3 points for a division win
2 points for a conference win
1 point for a non-conference win
We then tally all of the points and seed each team in a 64 team double elimination tournament. The 16 teams (of the 72) with the fewest points play in a “play-in” game for the last of the 8 spots in the 64 team tournament with 8 teams getting eliminated before the actual tournament starts.
I am looking to use Excel to aid me in generating our 5 game regular season schedule (each team has 2 division games, 2 conference games, and 1 non-conference game) and to develop an easy tool to mark wins to tally points to automatically rank teams from 1-72.
I’d appreciate any advice or assistance in this endeavor as we spend hours and hours and hours doing all of this manually.
