SUMIF when criteria is outside of the range

My goal is to create a formula to show net spend for individual consumers.

I have one data set that includes (among many other things) rows with each product sold and columns to show the cost and the name of the customer.

I know that... =SUMIF(Range to look for criteria, Criteria, Numeric field to sum up)

But I only want to sum if the price of a product is in the same row as a certain individual's (unique) name.

I want to do this via one function and not by manually clicking cells or by alphabetizing the data set (it is very large). Also you can assume that no one has the same name.

    Thoughts?

Looks like you have Excel 2010, so I recommend the SumIfs() function.

=SUMIFS(Numeric field to sum up, Range1 to look for criteria, Criteria1, Range2 to look for criteria, Criteria2)
    Hope that helps,
