I am learning a lot from reading these forums, including how to create drop down boxes and assigning a value to text, which is exactly what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to assign a weight to different situations so I can calculate a total score for each person. Here's an example (these values are in cells a1:b5, I couldn't get them to align here so you could see separate cells):
no read/write 4
knows abcs/no read write 3
writes abcs/reads simple words 2
writes simple words/read sentences 1
reads/writes at level 0
I created a drop down box in C10, and here's my formula: =VLOOKUP(C10,$A$1:$B$5,2)
Works fine for 4, 2 and 1. knows abcs/no read write returns a #NA and reads/writes at level returns a 3. I've been getting this same problem with other sets of data as well (although not necessarily with items 2 &5, it varies with each drop down set). I've also tried doing the LOOKUP the "long" way, with the same results.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
