Help with formula to determine category

    hi everyone.

now i know you can't have more than 7 if statements, and there are some other work arounds, but i am not that familiar with setting them up.

    here is my problem.

i have several classifications of vehicels eg ( and just to make it more confusing the classifications are the same as cell numbers, eg Toyota Landcruiser is a classification H2 etc.)

Class H2, H3 and H4 are all in the Light Vehicles catagory (so these are classifications, not cell references)

    Class D2.3, E2.5, B2.1 are Crane Trucks

so what i would like to do is have it so that if it is a H2 or H3 then the next cell with show "Light Vehicle" a D2.3 will show "Crane Truck"

there are approximately 61 different classifications about probably about 20 catagories

    Is this possible?

    Thanks

    Timothy

why not to use lookup instead of if statements?

Re: Help with formula to determine category

    okay i hope that worked.

so Rows 10 to 16 and then 18 to 23 would all be classed as light vehicels, whilst the rest are in the description.

    Thank you Zbor

You must define somewhere your table (I did that on Sheet 2).

    Then use VLOOKUP function.
(Notice that not define codes will return you an error until you define them in the table).
