How to measure fuel in cylindrical tank,Base tank and rectangular tank

    Hello,
i am looking for a formula to measure the fuel in a cylindrical tank by entering the diameter of the tank and height of fuel in a tank ( fuel height should be in inches). And same for rectangular and Base tanks. Any one can help me here please.

Volume in a Cylinder: pi x r² x Depth

rectangle: Width x Length x Depth

Is the cylindrical tank laying on its side or is the axis vertical?

For any object whose sides are vertical (like a cylinder with vertical axis or a parallel piped) the volume is the (area of the base)*(height)

    Hi jpr73

Is the OP using imperial inches! If so there are 12" (inches) to 1' (foot)

    Hi Kevin UK,
For cylindrical tank, koolboy65 use inches for all measures
For rectangular tank, koolboy use feets for width and lenght then inches for dept
See the formula, I have talk care of feets to inches
    Best regards

    Hi koolboy65

You need to enter numbers in your spread sheet instead of text! Then format the cells.

I'll ask the question again, is the cylindrical tank lying on its side? (like the tank of a tanker truck?)

Also, since the desired answer is in liters, there are 61.0237438366662 cu. in. in a liter

I don't see where the units for the diameter of the cylinder are mentioned.

I am curious about this as well since I have a cylindrical tank as well plus it is lying on its side.

EDIT - I've done some looking around and have found the following base formula for a partial horizontal cylindrical tank with flat ends/heads. Just replace R with the radius of the tank in inches, H with the height of the liquid in inches and L with the length of the cylinder in inches. This should give you a volume in U.S. gallons

    (R^2*ACOS((R-H)/R)-(R-H)*(2*R*H-H^2)^0.5)*L*7.4805/1728
