Counting based on multiple criteria and columns

Hi folks,

I'm working on a spreadsheet in Excel 2007 and I'm trying to count the number of matches based on multiple criteria. I've looked through the forums previously and tried some of the solutions but none seem to work for me. What I want to do is count the number of matches between two cells based on a predetermined set of criteria.

So for example if column A = 1 and column B = London then count how many times column D matches column C.

In E1, put this formula and copy down.

which is pretty slick if i say so myself lol

(PS this wont compare if 2 cells are blank but i can do if you need it to but i assumed youd want that ommited
