    Advanced Vlookup

    Hello all,

I frequently play around with spreadsheets and challenge myself with different formulas however now I feel I have hit a brick wall within my knowledge! I'll try my best to explain what I am trying to do, I have a data sheet which includes separate persons data month on month. I have other cells which have a name and month in them and need to create a formula which will look at the cells with the name and month then find the figure held for that person on that month.

I have done some research and can see people mentioning VLOOKUP with MATCH inside the formula however I couldn't get this to work myself :s

Hope this is clear and hopefully someone can help!

    Re: Advanced Vlookup

If it's multiple months on one sheet, there's a workaround..

Concatenate the Person's Name and the month in a hidden column on your datasheet.

    Then do your vlookup(A2&B2,newhiddencolumn:Endofeverything, 4,False)

Sorry I'm new to this and didn't realise I could attach documents or I would have!

How would I do it though it doesn't let me drag and drop and I can't see anything above with regards to a document uploader?

Thanks for that FDibbins! I was really looking to try and use the layout as it was though as I have other tabs etc all pulling off this and would mean needing to change more formulas etc but thanks again for showing me another way of doing it!

Is there a formula I could use with the layout as it is your aware of?

the way you have your tables laid out would make it far more complex, and would entail the use of offset() and range names, to mention just a few lol.

the way i modified your tables is more or less the standard way to lay out this kind of data tho
