    Question What function to use when trying to find a text value in another sheet based on a number

    Hi,

    I am new to this forum and I am sorry if this thread is posted in the wrong section.

    My problem is that I would like to find a text value,in another sheet, based on a value in current sheet. I am not sure if this is important, but the value used for the look up is a consequence of a =Large formula.

    I am fairly new to this use of Excel and wonder if anyone could help me.

    If you take a look at the enclosed .xls file there are five sheets;
    Stats - front page with some statistics
    Settlement summary - where all the settlements are entered after completion of funds collection (based on date from outside this xls)
    Collection deviates - where all the insurers who did not pay within due date is entered (based on date from outside this xls)
    --statsSource - contains lists based on the Collection deviates sheet
    --listSource - contains lists that are used in the entry of the Settlement summary and Collection deviates sheet

    The two latter will be hidden once the project is complete.

    My problem is that I would like to show list of the five largest cases from the Settlement summary sheet in the Stats sheet. I have found the five largest sums from the Settlement summary sheet with a =Large formula, as can be seen in G6:10. I would like to have the corresponding vessel names in G6:10 and the corresponding claim type in H6:10. These can be found in respectively C column and G column.

    The thing I wonder is, what functions should I use to accomplish this?

    Thanks

    Hi

    Maybe in F6 and copy down.

    =INDEX('Settlement summary'!$C$4:$C$102;MATCH(G6;'Settlement summary'!$M$4:$M$102;0))

    Change the semi colons to comma, if you have to do this.
    Regards
