Cell Type and Imported Data from Access

I'm having a problem getting a formula to work and I know it's because of cell type differences.

Basically, I have a sheet with imported data from access, a text (material #) column and number (lbs) column. The material # column has numbers and text values, but it's all stored as type 2 and the lbs column is type 1.

Then I have a formula using vlookup that looks up the material # from another excel file and returns a value (it can be a number or text) and that is stored as either type 1 or type 2 because of that.

Then I have ANOTHER field that looks at the above field's material # using vlookup, and returns lbs from the imported access table. This is where my problem occurs because it returns the lbs im looking for just fine if the type is type 2 (if the material # is text). If that material # is in number form, such as 1234, it doesn't return my value.

What I'm thinking is that I need the 1234 version of material # to be stored as type 2 just like the text version of the material #.

Help would be appreciated, let me know if my explanation isn't good enough.

sounds like your vlookup formula in the intermediate step needs
    &""
added to the end of it so it returns text no matter what

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

Awesome, that worked. I knew it was something easy, thank you very much.
