Vlookup and left() with project codes

Hey guys, I have a spreadsheet with a column of Project Codes in column A. There are multiple projects under one company...so say company Electric has 100 projects with us they would have 100 rows with ELE001, ELE002, ELE003. After those 100 maybe the next 30 rows are for company Kleenex with projects KLE001, KLE002, KLE003, and so on.

Now I want to do, I think, is use a vlookup with a left() function to check if the cell is part of a client and put that clients full name which is in column E and put it at the end of the last row for that company into colmn AC. Now I wish I could show you the spreadsheet to make it easier, but as many of you probably know...confidentiality contracts exist. Any help would be greatly appreciated..doing this by hand would SUCK! Thanks again, KCCO.

Re: Vlookup and left() with project codes

Ok, so i made up some spreadsheets here as example. I need to clarify my original post. I have 2 spreadsheets..one with project data and price and other stuff. That is where the project code ties to the company name. Now, in my second book I have the financial results for the past 4 years...I want to put the company name from 'General' into 'Financial' (where the yellow cells are). As you can see, if we have 100 clients, this could take a while by hand.

SO..I think I need to use the vlookup with a left() function to check if the first 3 letters of a project code = something and if they do put that company name in the cell. Now, I dont know how to link a company to its 3 letter prefix without doing it manually entering it into a cell for each company. Let me know if that made anymore sense, may have just confused people more.
