SUMIF formula with dynamic column? HLOOKUP?

I have an issue where I'm trying to summarize customer data by product. The data I receive (sheet 1) contains the product, metric and customer by month. I need to summarize this data using data validation, allowing for the month and metric (in this example Sales $ and quantity) to be changed by the user. This screams of a sumif formula but the column to look up will change based on the selected month. I'm unsure how to make a formula work and was hoping for a hint or two from you experts.

i have the sum function for you, still working on the count function (see attached).

will each month always have an entry in each row? in other words, with the count of each month always bee the same?

Thank you for replying. Is there any chance you'd attached the wrong "book 1" file? Attached isn't the data or format of my original attachment. To answer your question, yes each month will always have an entry in each row.

lol yes it is possible. many posters call their file book1, example1 etc. try this 1, sorry

if all months will have entries, then the count part of it is easier than i thought.
