Conditional formatting changes light orange to weird brown? Consistantly.

    Hi,

Experiencing a weird problem on multiple unrelated spreadsheets where my light orange seemingly randomly changes to an ugly brown. Is this a commonly known issue? It's really strange to me.

It changes both the font and pattern from "light orange" to "Color scheme" brown.

    Without more information,

    1. Are you opening the workbook in different versions of Excel? Excel 2003 has fewer color options than 2007 or 2010. So if you created the conditional formatting using a newer version, and chose a color that isn't supported by 2003, then 2003 changes to the next available color.

    2. Any chance the conditional formatting is actually set up differently on those different sheets?

I reckon the palette for your workbook may have altered-it was a fairly common issue with xl2003 if you opened another workbook with a custom palette

The conditional formatting is definitely the same (although when the problem occurs it now says that it is brown, not purely visual but actually highlights the brown colour in the palate.) and changes itself.

We have tried resetting the palate to default, we are not currently experiencing the problem (A user manually changed everything currently effected back to orange) but we will keep an eye out to see if it pops up again.

There may be different versions of excel opening and saving this document which is what I assumed would be the root of the problem. The user that keeps experiencing the problem is on excel 2003 with a default colour palete (identical to me) yet I have not witnessed the problem first hand.

in 2003 if you opened a workbook with a custom palette it could affect the colors of every other workbook opened
