find position of League members in Table

A guy who was doing a sports prediction league each week has had a laptop disaster and can no longer carry on the league, so have offered to carry on the league. Unfortunately he cant access his spreadsheet and I am a complete idiot when it comes to excel.

The last weeks league he completed and posted is a bigger version of this....

    xweek10part1.png

    The scoring system is

    Result:

1 point - Predict the correct result e.g win, loss, draw

    Score:

    3 points - Predict the correct scoreline e.g. 2-0
1 point - Predict the correct goals scored
1 point - Predict the correct goals conceded

    Goalscorers:

3 points - Predict the correct first goal scorer
1 point - Correct goalscorer but not first goalscorer

Now I can copy the league as is, add a =sum formula in the points cell from result, score and scorer cells in each row to update each persons latest prediction results, but I don't know for the life of me how to do 2 things.

    1. Get the position of each person to update and move up or down the league based on its respective points amount, while keeping each persons row linked to that person.

    2. Get excel to update the position cell as 1st, 2nd, 3rd as in the pic keeping people with the same points in the same position (4th, 4th, 4th, 7th, 8th, 8th, 10th etc). I would be happy enough for excel to purely give out 1,2,3,4,5 results if it works.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it, as its a long hard slog otherwise to do this. I dont mind updating the 3 input columns post game for everyone, but would love for the spreadsheet to update the positions of players automatically based on their total points.]

    Thanks for any advice.

    Re: League Table Help

Nomadski, welcome to the forum. We will be more than happy to help you

However, as with everything we have a few rules, and you have inadvertantly transgressed slightly

1st, you need to name your thread to something more meaningful, that actually describes your problem. lots of contributors will look at a thread title, and if it is of interest to them, or falls within their area of expertese, they will only open those threads. also, searching for "help" will not turn up too many results that will benifit you, sorry. I have changed the title for you....this time

2nd, not every1 can open .png files, myself included. It would be far better if you could upload a sample of your file, showing what you have, and an example of your expected outcome.

    Thanks

Re: find position of League members in Table

Sorry bout the indiscretions, I'm normally bit more forum savvy than this. :/

Here is the excel file I've filled with figures (its a very simple excel table by any standards):

    1.Pre Sunderland.xlsx

The table in the first post here is what I want to end up with each week: http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.p...c,37612.0.html

EDIT: Ive found the rank formula has done what I wanted apart from listing the results 1, 2, 3, 4, instead of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc if this is possible within excel?

For the sorting I read I can just do a custom sort after highlighting everything and it seemed to work, so that's ok.

I did think about automating everything (to make a match worksheet to put players predictions in each week, that would fill in the played, result, score and goalscorer in the main sheet automatically after filling in the actual result in the match worksheet) but like I say Im a total novice when it comes to excel. Would this be complicated?

EDIT: Ok I had a go at a worksheet for the last part above and came up with this template:

    Predictions Worksheet.xlsx

I would prefill the predictions and actual assets, and I would like the Pts To Add section to be automatically calculated based on the following rules:

    Result:

1 point - Predict the correct result e.g win, loss, draw

    Score:

    3 points - Predict the correct scoreline e.g. 2-0
1 point - Predict the correct goals scored
1 point - Predict the correct goals conceded

    Goalscorers:

3 points - Predict the correct first goal scorer
1 point - Correct goalscorer but not first goalscorer

Any help with this as well would be greatly appreciated.
