Formula to add 1 to a cell value or leave the same if conditions not met

Hi all

I have attached an excel to provide an example of what I am after.

Basically I track my virtual horses wins and would like the amount of wins they have to automatically update in a table I have when they win a race, with the race results manually entered by myself everyday.

I believe it requires a formula in which if the horses name in my table is in the list of race results and has a number 1 in the next cell to it (which shows it came first in a race), then to add one to its current total of wins in my table.

Hopefully my attachment will make it clearer

If you have all the results listed in Columns H and I, simply go with ..

Hi Ace_XL! SUMPPRODUCT will not work with a whole column earlier versions prior to XL-2007. I would not recommend to use a whole column with a new version. It will slowing down the calculation.

Thanks for your help. Since I posted I changed it around a bit so that the table will be linked to a different excel workbook, so it is a bit more complicated now. I have managed to set up a formula but it is very slow so I am going to post on here to see if a macro would be possible.
