reconcile two spreadsheets with the same data from two different sources

    Hi everyone,

I need to reconcile two spreadsheets (each has about 20 columns and 300 rows) that contain the same data but come from two different sources. I need an easy way to spot the differences. The columns (types of loans) are the same on both spreadsheets and the names of my projects in the first column should also match on both.

I already tried conditional formatting using countif but that doesn't show me all the differences. It doesn't highlight those numbers that are the same in value but for different projects and type of loan.

Hope this makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Franzi

    Hi Alan,

Ideally I want to compare all the columns.

    Thanks

Why don't you try a concatenation of all the relevant columns and do a vlookup between the two spreadsheets using that criteria? That way it will give you a unique identifier so to speak. Anything that doesn't match will come back as #N/A.

There is comparison software available if you do this sort of thing a lot and if the data tables are fairly similar in structure. I've used Beyond Compare before. Seems to work fairly well.
