Error in sum-formula that should be done in a correct way.

If I write the formula "=E3+E4" in a pane that is formated as a number and E3 and E4 also are formated as number, how come that I get a #VALUE!-error when the formula is being calculated?

I get the same error if I write the formula like this: =SUM(E3+E4)

Excel want to treat E3 and E4 as strings not as numbers.

Can you please help me on this?

What result do you get with this formula

    =COUNT(E3:E4)?

COUNT function counts numbers so if you get zero that means that E3 and E4 aren't numeric - what exactly is in those cells?

The #VALUE! error means that one or both of the cells do not contain numeric numbers even if they look like numbers and the cells are formatted as Number.

My guess is that one or both cells contain some type of unseen whitespace characters like spaces or line feeds or html char 160.

Do these cells contain formulas? If so, what do they look like?

Please upload your workbook (or just the section of it that's in question) so that we can give a definitive answer.
