Best 4 Scores from 8 for a Golf Winter League Competition

I have a spreadsheet with 8 competitions on it from which I need a Formula for the sum of the best 4 scores. However, within the spreadsheet each competition has two columns, the first shows the position in the competition, the next, the points won. I therefore need a formula for the sum of the best 4 points scores from every other column.

Positions are in C4,E4,G4,I4,K4,M4,O4,Q4.

Points are in D4,F4,H4,J4,L4,N4,P4,R4.

Value of sum of best 4 scores from D4,F4,H4 etc to be put in T4.

I hope somebody can help.

I suggest you upload a sample workbook for us to have a look at.

Try this formula in T4

=SUM(LARGE((D4,F4,H4,J4,L4,N4,P4,R4),{1,2,3,4}))

assumes there will be at least 4 scores in those cells - what would you want the formula to return if there are 3 or less?

If positions are not numbers:

T4=SUM(LARGE(C4:R4,{1,2,3,4}))

If positions are numbers these should not be added:
T4=SUM(LARGE(IFERROR(C4:R4*(1-MOD(COLUMN(C:R),2)),0),{1,2,3,4}))
