    vlookup not working

    Hi,

I'm struggling to get the vlookup formula to work, please see file attached.

It does work when you physically type in the data, but this isn't feasible for me. The formula at the top is the original where I have used a MID formula to extract the 5 digit reference. The formula at the bottom is where I have copied the top cells and paste special values in hope that the vlookup would work.

Can anyone help me on this please?

    Thanks!

Try in C11 at the end of your formula to add a zero.

    =MID(C4,4,5)+0

    Re: vlookup not working

Oh wow that did the trick! I've been sitting here for hours changing formats and such I like to know how formulas work, any chance you can tell me why the "+0" worked, what does that do?

    Thanks again!

    Re: vlookup not working

LEFT, MID, and RIGHT ALWAYS give text as result. When we use numbers, then one way to do these numbers is adding a zero at the end!

You are welcome and thanks for the reb*!
