    using binary dates

    hi,

    i have a list of dates in binary form i.e (20120106 , 06 january 2012...etc)

    2 questions:

    1. how to convert them back to to normal date form ie. 06/01/2012

    2. what is the best way to add and subtract these binary dates, for example if i wanted to know how many months were between 201201 and 201104?

    sorry if this seems a stupid question!

    thanks

    Re: using binary dates

    hi a2424, try:
    =TEXT(A1,"00-00-00")+0
    learned this from daddylonglegs

    you can then format them to Dates.

    for the 2nd question. assuming data in A1 & A2, try:
    =DATEDIF(DATE(LEFT(A2,4),RIGHT(A2,2),1),DATE(LEFT(A1,4),RIGHT(A1,2),1),"m")
    some see it as 9 months, some 10 months. if it's the latter, add a "+1".

    Thanks, if you have clicked on the * and added our rep.
