Ignore blank cells created by formula

I have been trying to get around this for a couple days now. Ultimately I want a Dropbox from a range, but the range is filled with formula that return names or blank values. Data validation's "Ignore blank cells" doesn't work with this because the cells are not technically blank, they just return blank. ISTEXT returns all the cells as TRUE even if empty.
