    Database Running Total Issue

    Hi all,

    I am currently building a new database for the small family business where I work. To cut a long story short, I am using figures in column I to add to column J to create an updating running total, so that when a figure in (for instance) I4 (most recent purchase value) changes, the value in J4 (total gross purchase value) is updated. I already have the equation =I4+J4 and resolved the circular calculation issues by setting the iterations to 1.

    The problem is that I need the equation to work ONLY within it's own row, but have found that adding a number to cell I5 (for instance) will also change the value of J4.

    Am I missing something? Is there a simple way to get a formula to isolate itself to each cell row?

    I would appreciate any light anyone can shed on the matter,

    You get better help, if you add an excel file, without confidentional information.

    Please also add the desired (expected) result.
    Notice my main language is not English.

    Thanks for the example.

    And what is the desisered (expected) result.

    I'm not sure what you're up to.

    Re: Database Running Total Issue

    The expected result is that when a value in cell I4 is changed, cell J4 will display a total of all of the entries in I4. (ie: three entries of 10 in cell I4 will make cell J4 read a total of 30)

    As stated in the original message I can easily make this formula work when isolated to a single row of data using the =J4+I4 and then setting the iterations to 1.

    The problem is that we would need each cell in the J column to only act with the data in it's corresponding I column. As detailed:

    I4 -> J4
    I5 -> J5
    I6 -> J6

    Re: Database Running Total Issue

    currently if we update a value in any cell in the I column, the figure gets added to the total in cell J4 and every other cell in column J doubles it's value.
