Populate Rows and Columns - List?

Trying to populate rows from other rows....for instance

A B C
1 Smith John 23
2 Johnson Ben 28
3 Jackson Steve 18


if D1 = Johnson, then I would like E1 = Ben and F1=28
but if
D1= jackson then i would like e1 - steve and c1 = 18 etc etc....but on a much bigger scale.

I don't know if this should be done with a list or what....I want to type in or grab the last name from a list and have it automatically populate the other rows.
I've tried making a list, but Data Validation gives me an error.
