Lookup values in one spreadsheet and automatically input into another spreadsheet

I process airtime for telephone usage (individual calls placed to/from the phone) in a spreadsheet using multiple formulas to do so. Once completed, everything is sorted and subtotaled by "Customer Code", then "Date" then "Time".

I have one customer with 100 different "Customer Codes" and I have to manually copy the subtotal for each "Customer Code" from this spreadsheet into another spreadsheet that is a summary for the customer.

Is there an easy way for me to input a formula so that this information is automatically inputted into the 2nd spreadsheet?

The first spreadsheet totals change monthly.

FYI - these spreadsheets are in different workbooks...

    Thanks in advance!

A sample spreadsheet with dummy data would be nice.

    Thanks Jacc!

See attached for the 1st workbook (Excel Help Template) that has the call details sorted (by Customer Code, then Date, then Time) and subtotaled. Then see 2nd workbook (Customer Summary) that has the customer codes itemized and column D has the subtotal of each Customer Code from 1st workbook. I have been manually moving the subtotals over to the Customer Summary page each month.

There just seems to be an easier way to do it.

Hmm... For some reason your first file (Customer...) is not possible to download. Try posting it again with a different name or something.

Being lazy here, I just moved the one sheet over to the other workbook. You can just move it back later.
Is the formula what you were after?

This looks right, but how do I tell it to look in a completely different workbook and not just a different sheet in the same workbook?

Make sure you have the workbook open where you want the sheet.
Right click on the sheet tab for Sheet1 in my workbook and select Move or Copy....
Choose the workbook you want to move it to and click OK.
    Formulas update automatically.

    Hi Jacc-

Thanks so much for your help!

I would like to keep the sheets in separate workbooks. Will this still work?

Yes. Like I said, the formulas will update when you move the sheet to another workbook and they will stay that way when you save. Make a copy and try and you'll see.

If you start moving around the source data workbook to different folders afterwards the links will of course not work anymore. I'm not 100% about this since I haven't tested.

How does the formula know what workbook to look up the data? Not sure I understand completely...
