How to create a database-like output

I would like to have a pull-down menu that, when I select a value on the menu, it will fill in information into cells.

For example, Say my data is as follows:

Student Number Last Name First Name 1st Exam 2nd Exam 3rd Exam Average Grade Above or below Letter Grade
    684095 Ramos Conrad 73 73 83 76.33 below B
    696347 Rapsing Anna 89 89 80 86.00 above A
    511839 Tajon Paulo 84 98 95 92.33 above A

I want a pulldown menu with the options of student numbers. When a person selects the student number they are interested in, the data in the same row will be sent to a new cell. Kind of like a database function. Each data into a unique cell.

I am teaching excel to high school kids over here in China and some are pretty sharp, so always looking for challenges for them. I am at a loss on this one and have had no luck in searching for anything like this. I probably don't have the correct terminology.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Edited:
The output I entered to mimic the excel sheet looks fine when I am typing but looks like crap when submitting post. Hope it makes sense.

I just realised, after typing all of this, that I simply want a database. Sigh. Found lots of stuff online as soon as I finished typing the above. I hate it when I can't figure out what to search for.

If anyone has any tis or pointers to add, please let me know.

Back again. Looked at some of the database tips online but it was just for keeping everything on one page and sorting data. So my initial question is still valid. Any suggestions?

Perfect! Thank you very much. I had a feeling it had something to do with VLOOKUP but I did not have time to look at it more. Thanks again for the help. I know now where to go for future problems.
