COUNT IF formulas

I should be able to figure this out, but my brain is frazzled right now.

I have a spreadsheet of data of hotel content analyses. For each column, there is a "g," "b," "n," or a blank.

I figured out COUNTA statements for the overall totals and COUNTIF statements for each letter.

Now I need to figure out the total counts and the g, b, and n counts based on the hotel class (which is listed in a column).

So, for example, I need a statement that searches Hotel Class (A2:A3601) and returns the COUNTA (g, b, AND n) for each column for only hotels that are 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, or 2.5.
Then, I need a statement that gives a COUNTIF of the same thing for each letter (g, b, n).

HELP PLEASE!

Re: COUNT IF formulas

hi and welcome to the forum

sounds like you need to try a countifS() for each letter, then add them together?

Or you could add a helper column that tests for those letters and returns, say, 1, which you could then use in the countifS()?

might be easier to help if you upload a sample work book, (all sensitive data removed), showing what data you are working with, a few examples of what your expected outcome is, and how you arrived at that

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
