    Adding cell values

    Hi,

I'll try explain this as best i can.

This spread sheet is for a football game.

if you score a goal you get 5 points / assist a goal 3 points / yellow card

I start in cell c as A and B have names.

    In C i have goals - If enter 1 in C2 you will get 5 points. But if i enter 1 in E2 ( yellow card ) you get a minus 1. So your 5 + -1 is 4..

The trouble i have is adding all these in the total box.

If someone has 2 goals / 1 assists / 1 yellow card there total should be 12 but it's not working for me.

Is it the sum im using =SUM(C2*5+D2*3+E2-1+F2-3+G2+H2)

I need to add part one.. then part 2 then part 3 etc and then add or minus them from each other.. how can i do this in 1 sum ?

    thanks.

    Re: Adding cell values

hi davidstokes. you didnt mention what are in F2, G2 & H2. but for C2:F2, here's how you can get 12:
    =C2*5+D2*3-E2

you don't need SUM to do it. SUM is usually when you need to sum up a range like:
    =SUM(A1:A100)

    Re: Adding cell values

also the D cell is not working when using your code.

If i have 2 in C this means the total is 10 - If i also have 1 in D this means 3 so the total box should have 13 as C and D are 10 and 3 ,,, If E ( yellow card ) had a 1 in it that would mean -1 to the total and the total should be 12

    Re: Adding cell values

    some cells are blank.. but C D E F G H have a value. I just didn't want to confuse things.

I suppose i should have said them all.

F has a value of -3 as it's a red card. So if i enter 1 in F2 the total should reflect a -3 as 1 red card means -3 points.

Then anything in G is added same as H
