Hello all. I am new to programming with spreadsheets and this is my first post in the forum so thanks for any help in advance.
What I am looking for is a way to create a drop down list based off of a number of other items that can be found in a number of tables I have created. What it is about is selecting the right material for a stiffener. I have a menu already where I can select the type of material the stiffener will be made from (cold rolled steel, hot rolled steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum). I also have a tab where I select the material shape (L=angle, C=channel, B=rolled flat bar). There are 3 different tables to choose from, each broken into 3 parts. One is for cold/hot/galvanized steels, another for stainless, and another for aluminum. Within each one of these there is a section for L, C, or B(rows). Each column is a different property such as moment of inertia, section modulus, height, width, thickness, etc. In other places in the spreadsheet I have already calculated minimum allowable 'quantities' for things line the section modulus and moment of inertia.
What I would like to do is find a way to create a selectable drop down list on a tab that looks at the tab where I have the selected material selected (Flange_Material), and the tab where I have the selected shape (SHP), then have it go to the correct table, and return as selectable all of the sizes of that shape and material that are greater than or equal to the moment of inertia and section modulus I said I calculated earlier.
The item I am looking for is in the left column and I can make it a separate list or table if I need to. It is the material size (ie: 2x2x1/4), and using a vlookup function or an INDEX MATCH setup, I will have it return the needed properties of the selected item.
I don't even know if this is possible or what is involved but I am willing to learn. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I am not using Excel 2003, its Excel 2007.
