conditional formatting based on values of two dfferent cells

    Hi all,

I have an excell spreadsheet that colours cells according to the cell values using conditional formating. That bit works very well.

What I also want to do is add a pattern (dots) to the conditionally formated cells if an additional column, the 'date' column, has a date in it.

I don't realy have a big understanding of excel, so I don't know what you call this (or even if you can do this).

    Thanks in anticipation

    you could use
    AND( cell1=value, cell2=date)

can you post an example sample spreadsheet

Re: conditional formatting based on values of two dfferent cells

    Hi Dave H,

Thanks for that but it doesn't solve the problem.

I need the table (Columns B to E) to be updated so that if there is no date in column O, the corresponding cell in the table is a solid colour, however if there is a date in Column O, the coresponding cell in the table has a colour with dots.

so for example, if Cell N2 has a value of 1 AND Cell O2 has a date, then Cell B2 =1 with a green fill with dots. If do date then Cell B2 = 1 with green fill and NO dots.

    Ta

Re: conditional formatting based on values of two dfferent cells

    Hi bonzerstuff,

I have applied the formatting to cell B2 now to give you the idea of how to go about it, also I have left the formula which should be used for each rule.

btw I made cell B2 a formula to reflect changes made in your source table.

    Hope that helps

Re: conditional formatting based on values of two dfferent cells

    Hi Dave H

    Thanks for that, brilliant,

It works a treat on the 1st column (B) but for reason not on Columns C to E. I have cecked the conditional formating for these and it is the same as Column B and the Conditional Formatting is applied to the whole of the small table.

Not sure why it wont work on columns C to E, but I shall have another go and try and solve the issue. If I get stuck I shall repost.

    Thanks

    No problem,

I think it's just the layout that doesn't really lend itself to copy and pasting. Please see attached with formatting applied to whole table.
