    Cool Sorting by importance

    Good morning!

I've created a drop down list using "Data Validation" for the column "TIME FRAME". I want the PRESET SORTING VALUE Column to add values automatically based on the information provided in the TIME FRAME.

    PRESET SORTING VALUE----------------TIME FRAME
    -----------8-------------------------------Fall 2013 (Sept - Dec)
    -----------1-------------------------------Spring 2013 (April- June)
    -----------6-------------------------------Meeting 2013-06-26
    -----------8-------------------------------Fall 2013 (Sept - Dec)
    -----------6-------------------------------Meeting 2013-06-26
    -----------10------------------------------Meeting 2013-07-20

    Can anyone help me?

    USING EXCEL 2010

    Re: Sorting by importance

The attached is along the lines of what you are after I believe.

You have you data validation on cells which link to a list, in my file i've used A B C D E for ease. In the column next to this source data i've put the value you want to see in the preset column.

In the small table to the right you select A B C D or E from the drop down, the Preset automatically fills with the data using a vlookup formula. Because you are using 2010 i've wrapped the vlookup around an iferror which will leave the cell blank when the drop down cell is blank (otherwise you would always get #NA showing).

Also your profile states you use 2003, if you edit your profile you can change this to the version(s) you use so you don't need to put this at the bottom of any posts.
