Combine two files with one common variable

Hi, I'm trying to combine two files. The main file has columns A-AW and the additional file has columns A-I with column A as the common variable. Neither has the same exact number of rows-meaning not all that appear in the main file are also in the additional file.

Thank you in advance for the help.

When you indicate that you are trying to combine them what specifically do you mean? Do you wish to append the information in the second file to the first by putting the data in Columns A-I in the columns 9 columns beginning at AX? If this is the case, it could be easily done in Access by bringing both files in as tables and then creating a query to join them on the common field. If you don't have Access, you could do it by using the Vlookup function in Excel in the 9 columns beginning with AX.

Thank you Alan. I'm already using Access but I was thinking it might be quicker if I do everything in Excel. I haven't used Vlookup, can you please show me how.

    Thank you for your help.
