Need help comparing letters as figures for quantitative data analysis

    hi all,

would like to enquire into ur collective knowledge.

I work in a college and obviously grades are the biggest thing that guide us...i have grades but i wud like to compare them. by this i mean i have one grade for a specific student from october and then january and then april. i would like to compare the three. they are however letters (and not number fields) so how wud i set up a worksheet so that it will compare january with april and then issue a '+' if the grade is improving and a '-' if the grade is falling.

    thanks v much
