    Data validation only returns data from the drop down list but not when entered!

    Quotation and Lantech price list 3.xlsm

    Hi There Folks,

    I'm having a small issue with the attached workbook. Sheet one (Parts List) has three colums "Description, Part Number and Price". Sheet Two (Service Report) has a Quotation/Invoice report that gets its data from Sheet one by selecting data from a dropdown list from the "Part Number" colum, this then populates the "Spare Parts used and the Unit Price" colums.

    Anyway, the problem is that when I input the part number "12345678" manually (which exsists in the Parts list DB) it doesn't return the Description or the price, but when I select the same part number from the dropdown list, it works?

    It only seems to fault on new parts that I have added!


    Any pointers would be much appreciated.

    cell E33 is formatted as text.

    change the format to general and it's possible to type 12345678 and get the result POUNDS 123
    Notice my main language is not English.

    most of your part numbers are not actually numbers, they are text that looks like a number. Highlight all of teh "numbers", making sure the very 1st 1 you select has a small green triangle in the top left corner of the cell.

    Then scroll back up to the 1st 1 and right-click, select "convert to numbers"

    This spreadsheet is very close to what I need. It allows adding other items if they don't exist on the spreadsheet already. I would like to add yet another column which could have any where from 1 to 4 additional selections based on the item number selected. Lastly how are the input boxes created? Thanks.
