Looking for a formula to provide an outcome from a listing of information

    Hi all,

    Any help at all appreciated.

    COMM2012-13 (Feb13) BLANK - NOW WORKING V3.xlsx

I am looking for a formula that i can put into cell B2 of sheet Payroll Use 1.

I need it to look at Cells B8:B54 in sheet CODES and return whatever the code type is in A8:A54 (Either A or D). I then also need it to say if it is a Code that starts with 1 to use a code type of C and if it is a code that starts with 2 to use a code type of C, and then if the code is none of these things to return a 0 cody type.

The code types that start with 1 or 2 are always followed by 3 letters so i just need to pick up that it starts with either a 1 or 2 and return the applicable code type.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can help!

    Thanks

    By matching what?

I then also need it to say if it is a Code that starts with 1 to use a code type of C and if it is a code that starts with 2 to use a code type of C, and then if the code is none of these things to return a 0 cody type.
Please explain which column needs to be matched with which one and where the output should be

The code types that start with 1 or 2 are always followed by 3 letters so i just need to pick up that it starts with either a 1 or 2 and return the applicable code type.
Not sure the above quote is belongs to which one?

I need B2 of sheet Payroll Use 1 to look at cell C2 of sheet Payroll Use 1 in order to produce an A or D based on the code in C2 that is found in cells B8:B54 in sheet CODES.

Actually dont worry about the 1 or 2 code part just the above and to return a 0 if it isnt one of those 2 please

Yes, correct so the result for that particular cell in cell B would be 0. I want to use this formula for all coloured red cells in that sheet so in some there might be ERET which would return an A or STFP that would return a D etc.

I just need a general formula that will look at whats in C and either put and A, D or 0 in the B cell depending on what is next to the codes in the codes sheet.

Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.

    COMM2012-13 (Feb13) BLANK - NOW WORKING V3 TEST.xlsxCOMM2012-13 (Feb13) BLANK - NOW WORKING V3 TEST.xlsx

Well you know what before looks like, i have manually changed entered into the red section for each column to what it should be, A code type for the allowances found on the codes sheet with an A next to them and D for deductions found on the codes sheet with a D next to them and 0 for anything else.

Thanks your help is much appreciated
