Data analysis, attempting to compare sets of data. Not sure if analysis exists.

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, so please remove if inappropriate. As it's a data analysis question maybe rather than an excel-specific one. However I’d appreciate any ideas.

Top set of data shows how English, Maths and Science did against eachother.
(So you can see maths has the worst lectures and tutorials)

Bottom set of data shows individual subjects; how they did across all the questions.
(So all students, across all subjects marked ‘tutorials’ favourably. Maths students answered most positively towards the questions about lectures and tutorials.)

I’d like to find a way of comparing these two sets of data. Because whilst maths students themselves thought that generally their lectures and tutorials were the best bit about their course, those results are still the lowest when compared against the other two subjects.

Do you know if there is any way of doing this?

As you say, this is probably more of a statistics question than an Excel question.

I haven't looked at your data in detail. My first thought is that perhaps an ANOVA test would be a suitable test to see if the means are actually different from each other. Excel has built in ANOVA tools, but I would first suggest you visit a statistics text or tutorial to understand how ANOVA works so you'll be able to interpret the results correctly. Since it is just one dataset as far as I can see, I understand you want to combine the to perspectices (variations in scores within subject and within questions) in your analysis?
One way is to use rank in both perspectives (instead of coloring), and create a table to visualize the combination of those.
