[SOLVED] Counting Names in different sales years.

I need to count the names of the Companies in each year, if they had sales.
If you hard count them for example, in 2012 there were 5 companies that had sales, while in 2013 there were 4(because DD had no sales). The "ship to" does not matter, but it is there.
So, How do I do that?
Thanks for the help, this is something for work.

Please attach a sample workbook with enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

Note: Please don't attach documents containing confidential data like (address, telephone, ID#s, etc.).

Thanks a lot, I've been trying to wrap my head around this all day.

Now can you explain what "<>"&"" means in excel? Since that is your criteria.

    Thanks again

Re: Counting Names in different sales years.

<> means that NOT EQUAL TO
"" means that NOTHING (i.e.) BLANK

So by combining both we are saying that the cell should have a value. So the countifs function will check the range for Non Blank cells for getting the count.
