Formula Required to "Re-Start" Calulation if Cell = 0

    Hi There,

I really hope some one can help me here ( and there is actually a formula for this), basically im looking for a formula to place into another formula to "re-start" the the calulation if a cell = "0", im still new with excel formulas

Please see attached spreadsheet - i would like column O to be a formula that would "restart calulation if Column "i" returns back to 0, but i dont want any negative numbers. Column "i" changes every day ( hopefully increasing)

    Any ideas ?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hayley.

Column I contains no 0's, and Im not sure what your expected answers would be. Could you show what answers you want please?

    Hi,
I know it "currently doesn't have any 0's present , i'm trying to forward plan so if a 0 appears it wont go to negative just restart the calulation.
Basically the spreadsheet is for qualify for an award, every 365 days they receive an award etc - Prehaps i have set the spreadsheet up incorrectly.

I think it would help if you could show a simulation of what you want, including dummy data, a few sample answers and how you gpot them. Remember, you know exactly what you want and what you are dealing with - we dont

Looking at what you've got and trying to still "guess" at what you want, you could try =if(i9-n9<1,"",i9-n9), and I agree w/FD, as I'm trying to guess what you want in column O.

so are you saying that if column I goes to zero (cell I31 as example) you want the number in O31 to be 365? to represent the number of days until the next award?

Not 365 but to match what ever number is in column I ( cell I31) essentially re-starting the count. However if that is not possible than i would settle for the count down approch 365 downwards.

Re: Formula Required to "Re-Start" Calulation if Cell = 0

Ok, I am getting lost, I keep rereading the posts and I think i'm not following.
So I'll use some of your numbers, so when column I has the following numbers: 16, 80, 298, 2030 and 0, what would you like column O to be for each I10 = 16, O16 = ? and I11 = 80, O11 = ? And this would of course depend on whether or not column N creates a negative number, I think I get that part.
So, hopefully you get what I'm looking for.

I'm signing off and I'll revisit this in the morning to see if I can get any clarity.

Re: Formula Required to "Re-Start" Calulation if Cell = 0

    I'm getting lost myself LOL.
Oh right ok so. to break the whole spreadsheet down :
Column I is how many days they are "injury free" ,
Column K is when they last received their gift ( they get a gift after reaching 365 days) forget
    Column L - not relevant.
Column M is how many days since they last received their gift from todays date (if column I has a number in it)
Column N is a count down ( this is where i may have gone wrong and i may not need this column) Prehaps i should be using
So if column I9 = 16 than 09 should also = 16 etc, however say if column I31 was 596 but than the next day went to 0 ( automatically get usdated) than O31 = 0 too.
Honest i like i may have set the spreadsheet up wrong.
I just need the spreadsheet to use Column O as the working number column ( that all the formulas all refer too), i need a column to "restart" the count ( without effecting column O) from the day they receive their gift and i need another column to reflect if column O goes to zero than the whole count starts again from zero.

Re: Formula Required to "Re-Start" Calulation if Cell = 0

So should cell O9 be equal to I9 when the result of I9-N9 is less than zero?
    In other words, =if(I9-N9<1,I9,I9-N9)?
So in other words, this would be that: IF the difference of I9 (16) subtracted from N9 (349) is less than zero return the value in I9, otherwise return the value of I9 minus N9.
Because that would also return 0 in cell O31 if I31 becomes 0 too.
