    Soccer player field/bench time calculation

I've been trying different formulas and matching players to in/out sub time, but I can't get anything to work.

What I am trying to do is for a given soccer game (my kid's team), is to calculate the actual playing time for each player. The coach is trying to make sure everyone gets the right amount of time, keep parents happy, etc.

I know some absolutes: Match is divided into 2 halves, each is 25 minutes long. We know who starts each game, and in/out subs during the half and what minute during the half they subbed on/off. What we want to calculate is for each child on the roster how much playing time and bench time per game by half. The position is not important at this point. Anyone game enough to help me reach my "goal". I know pretty bad pun, but I couldn't resist. Thanks in advance.

So why do I need to know which minute they were substituted in or out?

What happens if they played 1 minute in a sub

What Happens if they played 24 mins.

The data comes from a paper sheet that we use at the match. I would think that knowing which minute they come in and out is necessary to calculate how many minutes a player was on the field or on the bench.

    Hi

    Does the attached help.

The first thing I thought it best to do was ensure all the Player references in columns Q, C,D,J&K were all text cells. Those where they contained a letter obviously were, but those with digits were numbers. It's always best for these sorts of things if there is a consistency.

I've done the first half results for you so hopefully you can follow the formulae and do the second half. I've assumed any player never plays in more than two periods in any half. i.e. they never leave play on three occasions.

Thanks Richard, that is looking like what I need. The kids may leave a half more than twice, possibly up to four times, in that case should I just copy/paste the second in/out batch and then modify the Field Time formula? Regards.

    Hi,

Yes I guess that would be the simplest way.

From memory - I've not got the worbook in front of me, the trickiest part might be to modify the additional in/out formulae since they need to work out whether someone has as many 'off' events as start events.

Actually having just written that I suspect that might offer an easier formula than the one I think I used which from memory did it differently, and not as succinctly.

Try it anyway and if you're struggling post back.

Richard, I'm struggling with the out time calculation bit. If you look at player #9, in the in the first half was in at minute 15 and out at minute 23 for a total of 8 minutes field and 17 minutes bench time, yet column AA:3 shows out at 15:25. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi,

Been giving this a bit more thought and simplified it.

Attached is an example of how to generate your results. I started afresh with the essentials and it only shows the first half, but all you need to do is replicate everything for a second half set of tables and then build it into the workbook that has the diagrams.
