    Summing data based on 3 variables

    Hi

    I have a sheet of data that is laid out by person in column A, task in column B then daily dates across the rest of the columns from 1/9 to 31/12.

    There are several people and several tasks.

    What I want to be able to do is summerise the monthly data in a seperate tab by person and month.

    I've tried some SUMIFS and INDEX/MATCH, but can't see an easy way to get all the variables in.

    Can anyone please help with this?

    Hi .

    Be sure that best way to describe your problem is to upload a sample workbook.

    Be sure that all sensitive data removed, showing what data you are working with, a few examples of what your expected outcome is, and how you arrived at that.

    To attach a small sample workbook.

    Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

    The description in both sheets in column B, must be the same...

    So see my example using this formula and making some slight modifications to your descriptions...

    thanks, that works great
    Just one more thing I realiased, for some of the data, I need it to be an average, rather than the sum, can the formula be amended to do that?

    In this case, try in C4. Copy down and across.
