Sum of identical values/text in different tab

Hi all,

I have a column called status, which can hold only "open/closed/resolved".This sheet contains more than 1000 rows.
i want a kind of dashboard in next tab in the excel like

number of open status rows:<sum of open status in column c5 in the previous tab>
number of closed status rows:<sum of closed status in column c5 in the previous tab>
number of resolved status rows:<sum of resolvedopen status in column c5 in the previous tab>

Help me to get it....

Its working fine..
But i think COUNTIF function will work better..
Anyway thanks for your response..

ex:
=countif($A1:$A1000,"Open")
