    VLOOKUP or/and MATCH Function

Hi I'm new to this forum and require some help in excel. I've been given two spreadsheets:

The first spreadsheet consists of two columns: App Codes (4 digit codes) and the specific App Name that comes with the App Code. There are about 5300 App Codes & App Names.

The second spreadsheet consists of one column: App Codes and for this one there are only 4900 App Codes.

Essentially I'm trying to find out which 400 App Codes are missing. I'm wondering if it's possible to put the three columns next to each other and when there arent two app codes for the cell to say "N/A" (the 400 App Codes that are missing).

I've been reading up on Vlookup and Match functions but don't quite understand how to do it in this real life concept. I'm hoping someone can walk me through steps on how to make this possible.

    Cheers

    Welcome to the Forum!

First let's get terminology straight--everybody says "spreadsheet" but an Excel file is a workbook and contains multiple worksheets. Do you have one file or two files?

If you have one file with two sheets (selected by tabs) called Sheet1 and Sheet2 respectively, you can take the following steps:
    1. In Sheet1 insert a header row that gives titles for each of the two columns (I'm assuming A and B).
    2. Add a third column called Missing in C
    3. Under the third column, put this formula in C2:
      Formula: copy to clipboard

and copy it down for all the rows that have data
    4. Click on A1
    5. Click on Data, Autofilter (I no longer have Excel 2003 so I don't remember the exact menu sequence to turn on Autofilter)
    6. Click on the filter arrow in C1 and unselect Select All and then select "NOT FOUND" and the result is a list of the 400 that are missing from the second list.

    Hi Jeff,

I tried your method but it is displaying not found for all of them not just for the 400 missing.

I can't reconcile your screenshot with what you just said. It looks like you filtered for NOT FOUND and so only the NOT FOUND rows are being displayed.

Don't attach a screenshot of your Excel file--just attach the file! It's easier than taking a screenshot first and then attaching that.
