Hi All,
I have a list of 48 numbers, and the sum of these numbers is 197,498 with an average of 4114.5.
which is the most appropriate function to use for standard deviation (the answer should be in percentage form)
Thanks,
ssq

That's not enough info to calculate standard deviation.
With 48 numbers and a sum of 197498, the mean (average) will always be 4114.5. The numbers can be closely knit together (all of them can actually be 4114.5!) or can be as widely spread ranging from -100000000 to 100000000 making the standard deviations in the two cases very distinct!
Life's a spreadsheet, Excel!

thanks! my question was " most appropriate function " not how to calculate. your answer should be if you understood correctly is STDEV and the average in percentage would be the average/sum*100. thanks again for your sarcastic way in answering questions
